The numbers behind the risk

Why these checks matter.

Account theft, scams, ransomware, unpatched software, and weak access controls are common causes of real losses. These figures come from public FBI, FTC, CISA, and Verizon reporting.

Older adults 4×+

The FTC reported a more than four-fold increase since 2020 in reports from older adults losing $10,000 or more to business- and government-impersonation scams.

Businesses 31%

Verizon's 2026 DBIR says 31% of breaches now begin with exploitation of software vulnerabilities, showing why updates and patching still matter.

Everyone MFA

CISA recommends multi-factor authentication because a stolen password alone should not be enough to access an account.

Examples of problems we look for

Common findings

No MFA on business email

A stolen password can be enough to access the account.

Former employee still active

Old access remains available after someone leaves.

Backups failing silently

Backup software is installed, but recent jobs are unsuccessful.

Everyone is an administrator

Too many users have permission to make system-wide changes.

Clear scope: The introductory checkup is a basic configuration and security review. It does not include penetration testing, password cracking, exploitation, destructive testing, or a guarantee against future incidents.
